Brands, BAITS Tags and Movement Permits: Keeping Your Papers in Order

The paper trail every Botswana cattle owner carries

• Registered brand (letshwao) — your mark under the Brands Act, with its certificate. The brand on the hide must match a registered certificate.
• BAITS ear tag — the national identification tag; expected on cattle from around six months.
• Movement permit — required for moving cattle in the situations DVS prescribes, notably across veterinary zones.
• Keeper/owner identification — who is answerable for the beast.
