What a withdrawal period is

Most medicines — dips, dewormers, antibiotics, some vaccines — leave residues in meat for a while after treatment. The withdrawal period is the time that must pass before that animal’s meat is safe to sell. It’s printed on the product label, and it’s different for every product.

Why it matters in Botswana

Abattoirs and export buyers test for residues. One failed test doesn’t just cost you that carcass — it can cost your whole consignment and your standing as a supplier.
